American Society of Anesthesiologists February 25, 2014 Letter to the Office of Inspector General
The attached letter to the Office of Inspector General (OIG) is the third of its kind submitted by the American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA). The OIG has a commentary period each year in which it solicits suggestions for what the OIG should look at regarding the fraud and abuse regulations for the coming year. The previous two letters were not acted upon. But, it is obvious the ASA will continue to press for action by the OIG regarding the issue of GI groups capturing anesthesia revenue in hopes for more vigorous enforcement of OIG Opinion 12-06.
